Abstract

As cultural and ethnic diversity increases, the educational process is paying growing attention to the benefits and challenges associated with employing teachers from minority groups. This article presents insights from a larger qualitative study based on interviews with twenty Roma educators. The analysis examines the experiences of Roma educators with regard to (non-)acceptance in school staff rooms and reveals that, even within the teaching profession, Romani individuals encounter prejudice from their colleagues. The article concludes by calling for greater acceptance of cultural diversity not only in classrooms but also within teaching faculties.
